Synopsis:

Determined to change his life, a man (Carrey) challenges himself to say “yes” to everything for one year. Based on the novel by Danny Wallace.

Our Thoughts:

While everyone will flock to see new movie Yes Man this winter simply because it’s Jim Carrey in another comedy role, it’s background story so far has overshadowed the film.

If you haven’t heard by this point, Jim Carrey is receiving no set salary for his role in this new film. Instead, he’s supposed to make a percentage based on how much money the movie makes - not a percentage of the grosses, mind you, but a percentage of what the film company clears on the film. It’s surprising, since he can ask for (and receive) a whopping $20 million per picture. Is he that confident the movie will be a success, or is he trying to give the movie a break on what he thinks is a smaller film? Who knows - either way, the deal seems pretty silly.

Whether this turns out to be a good deal for Jim or not, Yes Man sounds like it’s going to be fun to watch. The director, Peyton Reed, has shown he has a knack for comedies (Bring It On (2000), The Break-Up) and rising star Zooey Deschanel should be able to add a lot to the fun.

Even without those added bonuses, Jim Carrey portraying a man who says “yes” to everything sounds like it’s worth watching. After all, we already know how funny Jim is when he can’t lie (Liar Liar), so ‘affirmative answers Jim’ should be just as funny.
