Now Running WordPress 2.1 (Ella)
So, wordpress.org keeps coming out with update after update of WordPress, and I’ve largely ignored that last couple of updates. I upgraded (with not much difficulty) to WordPress 2.05, but just didn’t see the need to go to 2.06 or 2.07 as they didn’t seem to be worth upgrading to. 2.06 was a minor fix that I hadn’t had a problem with, and 2.07 was a bug fix to 2.06.
When I was notified 2.1 was now available, I decided to check out what this upgrade included: a new look to the admin screen, a spell checker for posts, the ability to have posts in “Draft” status, the ability to set any page as the home page, an auto-save feature for posts, and a faster MySQL connection.
The MySQL connection was the big reason I chose to upgrade, with the “Drafts” status, the post auto-save and spell checker as bonuses - although I was surprised they weren’t included in earlier versions.
So, between bites of dinner, I upgraded. It was even simpler the second time around, and I was done in much less time than I had imagined.
Actually, the upgrade itself was super-quick - it was deactivating, then reactivating the plugins one-by-one that was time consuming. Why isn’t there a button to de-activate all the plugins at once? I can understand why there isn’t a button to activate all the plugins at once, as the activation of non-working plugins can cause errors throughout the system. But for de-activation, why not?
Oh well…maybe that will be included in 2.2.
Enjoy the slightly faster PezXPress The Mind’s Chew Toy!
