Synopsis:

Carrie Stetko (Beckinsale), the lone U.S. Marshall stationed in Antarctica, is drawn into a shocking murder investigation. With only three days until winter plunges the continent into darkness, she must solve the murder before she is trapped in the dark with the killer. Based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka.

Our Thoughts:

Ah, how the mighty have fallen! After bursting on the scene with Underworld (2003), Kate Beckinsale looked like she was THE action heroine to beat, knocking down pretenders like Aeon Flux (2005)’s Charlize Theron with ease.

Then she decided to venture into comedy with Adam Sandler in Click (2006) - and she still managed to come out glowing, thanks in large part to the film being a smarter-than-average Sandler film.

Then came the news she wasn’t going to return for a third Underworld film, and fans across the land booed her decision. Does she think she’s too good for the role that made her now?

As Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans (2009) heads into theaters Spring 2009, Kate Beckinsale appears in Whiteout - and fans are shaking their heads. She gave up Underworld for this?

Sure, the book Whiteout is based on may be decent, but who really wants to go see a snow-filled film in April? By April, isn’t everyone sick of snow?

Sure, the release date is sure to be a problem, but unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the only thing holding back Whiteout. With 30 Days Of Night (2007) and Insomnia (2002) already displaying both the loneliness and hazardous conditions of remote arctic locations, will Whiteout bring anything new to the table, or will it just be a re-hashing of those films?

Director Dominic Sena has had success in the past, so could revive this film - but he’s been practically invisible since his Gone In 60 Seconds (2000) / Swordfish (2001) 1-2 punch, so most probably won’t be banking on that.

So, sure, there’s a chance that the Kate Beckinsale/Dominic Sena duo may be able to team up to save this film from disappearing completely off the radar - but unless this one’s got a truly exceptional trailer, most viewers will wait for the DVD to find out.

Just like us.
