Plot: Jaime Sommers (Ryan) is barely making it as a bartender and a surrogate mother for her younger sister (Hale). Then, she and her boyfriend Will (Anders) are involved in a horrific accident, and Jaime’s only hope for survival lies in top-secret technology that replaces both legs, an arm, an eye and one of her ears. Now stronger and faster than ever, Jaime discovers that this new technology comes with a high price…one she isn’t so sure she’s willing to pay.

This one looked interesting from the previews, but I was a bit skeptic at first. After all, this has been done before (The Bionic Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man), so I wasn’t sure if it was worth telling again.

However, after checking out the first 2 episodes (which can be downloaded for free from Amazon), it looks like this series has potential. While the first episode mainly dealt with how Jaime become the Bionic Woman, the 2nd episode starts getting her out in the field.

While some sequences look to be cheesy homages to the previous incarnations - including a cheesy training montage, the special effects look to be first-rate and the characters are engaging. So far, the highlight of the series isn’t Jaime vs. Sarah Corvus (the “first” bionic woman and Jaime’s nemesis) - although that is top notch.

Instead, it’s a conversation a rather drunk Jaime has with the man who runs the spy agency, played by Miguel Ferrer. Her wit is acerbic in that sequence…and intensely hilarious.

With little snippets of genious like that sequence tossed in with a likeable female lead and an engaging plot, Bionic Woman could have some staying power. Guess we’ll just have to stick around and see.

In the meantime, we’ll keep tuning in to Bionic Woman, Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
