Synopsis:

A forensic anthropologist, Dr. Temperance Brennan (Deschanel) - nicknamed “Bones” by her colleagues - and brash FBI Agent Seeley Booth (Boreanaz) team up to solve unsolved murders. With only the bones of the victims to work with, Dr. Brennan, her boss Camille (Taylor) and her team of forensic specialists - Hodgins (Thyne) and Brennan’s best friend, Angela (Thyne) among them - work on uncovering clues to the killer. Based on the work of forensic anthropolgist and author Kathy Reichs.

Why We Watch:

While we originally started watching “Bones” to see what David Boreanaz was up to after “Angel” (a spin-off series, of course, of our then fave “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), we’ve stuck with the show through the course of 3 seasons, and are eagerly anticipating a good 4th season.

Part of the watchability of the show is thanks to Boreanaz’s FBI Agent Seeley Booth and his partnership with Dr. Temperance Brennan (Seeley Booth). Their odd chemistry makes the duo defintie fun to watch - they are the true opposites attract team (akin to Mulder and Scully of “The X-Files”), with Brennand cold and scientific, and Booth the more emotional, quick-to-anger type.

Watching them co-exist - and indeed become friends - over the course of the last 3 seasons has been real fun to watch…and that was amped up even more so after a psychiatrist (played by John Francis Daley) was introduced to let them work through their supposed issues as partners.

Boreanaz and Deschanel make a good team - and the sexual tension getting thicker each year just adds to the fun. But they aren’t the only part of “Bones” we look forward to.

The “Squints” - as Booth so affectionately refers to Brennan’s co-workers - have been fun to get to know over the past 3 seasons, most notably Hodgins (TJ Thyne), Angela (Conlin) and Zack (Millegan). A new boss for Brennan - who turned out to be an old flame of Booth’s - Camille (Taylor) was introduced in Season 2 and has made positive contributions to the cast ever since.

While the plot is usually “C.S.I.” like in it’s evidence collecting and ferreting out answers, the unique members of the team tend to produce as many laughs as findings, making “Bones” usually a much more light-hearted show than “C.S.I.” Also, the story isn’t always focused on a new case, as Dr. Brenann’s relationship with her estranged father and brother does take over every once in a while, making for a nice change of pace.

With the season 3 finale shaking things up (hint: it involved one of the “Squints”), Season 4 looks to be ready to infuse a few fresh faces into the mix (grad students helping out the “Squints”), but still manage to keep the Booth/Brennan partnership reaching for new heights.

The “Bones” 2-hour Season Premiere (”Yanks In The U.K.”) airs tonight at 8pm* on FOX.
