Traitor (2008)

Synopsis:

When straight arrow FBI agent Roy Clayton (Pearce) heads up the investigation into a dangerous international conspiracy, all clues seem to lead back to former U.S. Special Operations officer, Samir Horn (Cheadle). The task force links Horn to a prison break in Yemen, a bombing in Nice and a raid in London, but a tangle of contradictory evidence emerges, forcing Clayton to question whether his quarry is a disaffected former military operative — or something far more complicated.

Our Thoughts:

Don Cheadle is known for playing solid supporting characters in films from Swordfish (2001) to Ocean’s Thirteen (2007) to Hotel Rwanda, but this summer he goes for starring role status with the new film Traitor from fledgling company Overture Films.

While we know Don Cheadle will give a solid performance that will draw in the viewers, we’re a bit uncertain about his co-stars, namely Jeff Daniels (who hasn’t really gotten over the Dumb & Dumber stigma) and the returning Guy Pearce (the star of The Time Machine and The Count Of Monte Cristo - and basically nothing since).

So, will the returning Guy Pearce and on-again/off-again Jeff Daniels help or hurt Don? Either way, Don Cheadle by himself makes this worth seeing. Toss in possible good performances from Daniels and Pearce, and Traitor could turn out to be the sleeper hit of the summer.

With both Traitor and the eagerly anticipated Righteous Kill (2008) (which reteams Robert DeNiro & Al Pacino) hitting theaters soon, it’s looking like Overture Films is kicking things off with a bang.
