Synopsis:

Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro), a haunted nobleman, is lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself. A remake of the 1941 film.

Our Thoughts:

Seems to me that there has been talking of updating most of Universal’s slew of classic horror monsters since Van Helsing (2004) brought them to light once more. Now, with The Wolf Man making it’s way to theaters in 2009, it looks like that talk is finally bearing up…albeit 5 years later.

It amazes me how Hollywood can greenlight Alvin & The Chipmunks/The Pink Panther stinker sequels so quickly, yet ponder for 5 years over a tried and true villain like Wolfy.

Maybe it’s the legacy of Teen Wolf that’s been hanging this one up.

Anyway, Benicio Del Toro seems perfectly cast as the werewolf in this updated version. His animalistic turn in The Hunted (2003) taken to the next step? Sounds like fun.

And with the memorable Hugo Weaving (The Matrix (1999), V For Vendetta (2006)) and Anthony Hopkins joining the cast, it sounds like the acting is going to be top notch.

I say, bring it on! It’s about time they updated Wolfy. Let’s see the new and improved wolf man in all of his special effects glory - and hope that The Wolf Man is as fun to watch today as the old film was in it’s time.
