Synopsis:

A former rookie cop mysteriously returns from the dead as The Spirit (Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy: The Octopus (Jackson), intent on destroying his beloved city. Based on the comic book series by Will Eisner.

Our Thoughts:

Frank Miller, the graphic novelist turned director that brought us Sin City (2005) and 300 (2007), looks to continue his winning streak with The Spirit, coming in January 2009.

Based on another comic book series (this one written by Will Eisner), The Spirit, like Frank’s previous directorial visions, looks to be another visual masterpiece. Frank has the ability to bring comics to the big screen without losing their comic book appeal, and that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon.

Aside from the visuals, The Spirit also has a strong cast to back it up. tMCT fave Samuel L. Jackson is Octopus, the villain of the pic. Already, this one’s a definite must-see. Toss in Scarlett Johansson, Jaime King and Eva Mendes, and this one adds a bevy of beauties into the mix (always nice).

While I haven’t read the comic series, Frank’s previous efforts, a bad guy role for Mr. Jackson, and Eva, Scarlett and Jaime in the film make The Spirit my first must-see film of 2009.

Almost makes you wish the summer was over already, doesn’t it?
