The Bank Job (2008)
Synopsis:
A car dealer with a dodgy past and new family, Terry (Statham) has always avoided major-league scams. But when Martine (Burrows), a beautiful model from his old neighborhood, offers him a lead on a foolproof bank hit on London’s Baker Street, Terry recognizes the opportunity of a lifetime. Martine targets a roomful of safe deposit boxes worth millions in cash and jewelry. But Terry and his crew don’t realize the boxes also contain a treasure trove of dirty secrets - secrets that will thrust them into a deadly web of corruption and illicit scandal that spans London’s criminal underworld, the highest echelons of the British government, and the Royal Family itself…the true story of a heist gone wrong…in all the right ways.
Our Thoughts:
So, Jason Statham is back for another film as a driver. This time around, the film is based on a true story of the biggest heist in London history. From the look of the preview, this could be good…but then again, Statham has fooled us before (the preview of The Transporter made that film look good, too).
Still, the last film we saw by Roger Donaldson (The Recruit (2003)) gives us hope that this movie will be even better than it’s preview. But, will Donaldson be able to do as good of a job with Statham as he did with Farrell and Pacino?
Sure to attract action fanatics who have been desperately holding out for Transporter 3, the film should do a decent job in theaters.
As for us, with Statham’s War (2007) still churning in the pit of our stomachs AND remembering sadly of the waste of film that The Transporter turned out to be - not to mention the sure to be horrific Statham starrer In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2008) - we think we’re going to wait for the DVD for this one.
In the meantime, we’ll get our Statham fix by watching Snatch or Crank (2006).
