Summer Movie Preview 2008, Part I: May

With summer fast approaching, we take a look at what looks to be the biggest hits of moviemaking’s most important season. With so many films to look forward to, we couldn’t just pick one from each month, so this time around we’re going to show our top faves from each month.

The long awaited movie version of the story behind the man in the most recognizable tin can on the planet is finally making it’s way to theaters, and fans couldn’t be happier. With Jon Favreau at the helm, and Robert Downey Jr. portraying the iconic hero, this one is going to be packed for weeks. Iron Man (2008) powers it’s way into theaters May 02.

“Go, Speed Racer, Go!” That’s what The Wachowski Brothers are hoping people will chant when they follow up their Matrix films with this live-action version of the popular cartoon show. While we know it’s going to be visually stunning, we’ll find out if Speed and Trixie are worth watching on the big screen when Speed Racer (2008) zooms into theaters May 09.

Ready for another trip into Aslan’s magical land of Narnia with Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter? So are we - although we’re a bit mystified why it’s apparently taking place in the Eastern European version of Narnia (check out Caspian’s accent in the trailer). Despite that incongruity, we’re looking forward to venturing once again through the Wardrobe when The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) hits theaters on May 16.

Everybody’s favorite archaeologist FINALLY makes his way back to the big screen this summer, and we’re all tingling with anticipation. Despite the 9 year lag between films, will Harrison Ford be able to rise to the challenge of playing Dr. Jones one more time? We’re hoping against hope that answer is yes. We’ll find out how much crack is left in the whip when Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008) hits theaters May 22.

Also in May: Sex And The City (2008) and The Strangers (2008).
