Synopsis:

Two NASA chimps are sent to a galaxy far, far away. One chimp has “The Right Stuff,” and the other, a good natured goofball, has “The Wrong Stuff.” The two chimps find themselves on a strange, uncharted planet, where they embark on a fantastical journey to save its inhabitants from a tyrannical leader. Animated.

Our Thoughts:

With all the hype surrounding the latest Pixar masterpiece, WALL-E (2008), you might be thinking that’s the only animated film hitting theaters this summer - but there is another animated adventure coming your way - Space Chimps.

With what looks to be some funny sequences in the preview (over on spacechimpspower.com) and a voice cast featuring the undisputed king of voice actors, Patrick Warburton, Space Chimps looks to be a decent second choice for animation this summer.

Unfortunately, due to WALL-E (2008) and the other blockbuster hits coming our way this summer (Indy returns! Mummy 3! X-Files 2! Iron Man! Hulk!), it’s a good chance that Space Chimps will be overlooked by the majority of movie goers.

While it may do decent business on the kid front this summer, chances are Space Chimps won’t be big box office this summer, unless 20th Century Fox pushes a huge campaign out in the weeks prior to it’s July 18th release.

Even if it doesn’t become one of the biggest hits of the summer, it will probably gain new life once it hits DVD, as most animated films do - and at that point it probably won’t be competing so closely with WALL-E (2008) either, so that can’t hurt.
