Now that The Rock has done his mandatory big-action-star-in-a-silly-comedy shtick with The Game Plan (following in the steps of Arnold Schwartzenegger and Vin Diesel, to name a few), he’s decided to go the route that kick-started Jake Gyllenhaal’s career - starring in a Richard Kelly film.
With Donnie Darko (2001), Richard Kelly brought a bizarre story to brilliant life…and from the previews, it looks like Southland Tales is even weirder.
And what’s with the ex-”SNL” stars? Nora Dunn, Jon Lovitz, Cheri Oteri…a bunch of bad actors all starring in the same movie…plus ex-boy bander Justin Timberlake? Yikes.
Let’s hope Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Janeane Garofalo, Amy Poehler and the afore-mentioned Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson can void out what will probably be bad performances from the others. Toss in Mandy Moore, and Richard Kelly has really got his hands full.
But, if the previews are any indication, we might just be watching the juggling act from the front row.
