Heather and I saw the preview for Soul Plane recently when we watched Barbershop 2, and Heather suddenly wanted to see it. I wasn’t too impressed myself by the previews, but I figured I’d go along with it - after all, it could turn out to surprise me and actually be funny.

The characters all just bumbled their way through the film. Snoop Dogg, who seems to have been going downhill since becoming a movie star, just keeps that downward slide going here. I don’t know what he was thinking, but it obviously wasn’t much. Maybe that wacky weed is finally affecting his brain. Whatever the case, he’s getting more painful to watch with each movie.

The other actors didn’t help him much either. Kevin Hart, other than his painfully obvious puberty spurts throughout the film, didn’t really do too much. Besides, with such a fluctuating voice, it’s kinda hard to get around that and concentrate on anything else he does.

Tom Arnold dumbs his way through yet another film, actually degrading himself more than usual here. Whatever happened to the guy who was so funny in True Lies? Wish he would come back. Oh…and if this is the way Method Man acts, it’s not given me any good notions about his new TV comedy, “Method and Red.”

The plot is pretty thin. Basically, it’s just a backdrop to showcasing about every racial steretype there is - in both directions. Mostly, the film shows the music video background of the director: the scenes are related, but only loosely, and he doesn’t waste any time trying to really put a plot together. He just lets the viewer follow him from scene to scene, and hope they enjoy the ride. This may be a good idea for a 3 or 4 minute music video, but this gets real old for a full-length film.

Overall, Soul Plane just bombed. The only thing worth seeing in this movie was the plane itself - that double-decker style is cool!

I wouldn’t watch this stupid movie again if they paid me. Hopefully they’ll be able to shake some sense into the director so he might make a movie worth watching.

As for this Soul Plane, it’s going down in flames, and I’d suggest you miss this flight.
