SmackDown 07.04.08
- MVP is in the ring to host ‘The VIP Lounge’. His guest: Triple H, who makes his way to the ring. MVP congratulates Triple H on beating John Cena at Night of Champions 06.29.08. MVP wants to welcome Triple H to SMACKDOWN, and mentions that ‘The VIP Lounge’ is the highest-rated interview segment on the show. Triple H says he’s a fan of MVP, and says he likes him, including the “Power Ranger” outfit MVP wears in the ring.
- MVP says that with all of Triple H’s accolades, MVP wonders how he feels to be in the ring with someone who, only though he’s only been here 2 years, makes much more money than he does. Triple H says he’d rather go down as a 12-time World Champion, rather than the biggest waste of money in SMACKDOWN history. Before MVP can get all upset, Triple H says he didn’t come out to fight, instead, he brought something for MVP.
- MVP stops Triple H before he can roll a tape, then ends up calling for it himself. It’s a recap from RAW 06.30.08 when CM Punk defeated Edge (after Edge being beat down by Batista) to become the new World Heavyweight Champion, Cena being ejected by JBL’s security force, and CM Punk’s win over JBL after Cena returns with Cryme Tyme to attack the security force.
- MVP and Triple H start making light of Edge’s loss to CM Punk…until GM Vickie Guerrero rolls out. Triple H says he’s been looking forward to meeting her, and congratulates her on her upcoming wedding. Triple H says that her fiance is some kind of genius, since he’s marrying the boss to get ahead in the business (”who thinks of that?” Triple H jokes), then mentions he knows of a great drive-thru wedding chapel if they are interested.
- Vickie says there are things that Edge has done (defending his Championship successfully every time against Batista, banishing the Undertaker) which Triple H has never done. Triple H says that’s true, but standing here now and looking at Vickie, there are clearly some things that Edge would do that he would never do.
- Vickie says they need to “change their tune” soon, because an unhappy Edge is on his way there. She also has news for Triple H: he will be defending his WWE Champion at The Great American Bash against (of course), Edge.
- Michelle McCool beats out Victoria, Cherry, Maryse and Kelly Kelly to win the Golden Dreams Match while a red-haired Natalia assists on commentary. By winning the match, Michelle will challenge Natalia, with the winner becoming the first ever Diva Champion.
- In her office, Vickie tells Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder that she blames them for Edge losing his title on RAW 06.30.08, and tells them that as punishment they have a match against Jesse & Festus - next.
- Edge makes his way into the building, looking upset.
- Festus & Jesse def. Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins in a Tag Team Match
- After the match, Edge’s music hits, and Zack & Curt attack Jesse & Festus from behind. Festus lies there as Edge attacks, while Jesse is held back by Hawkins & Ryder. Festus starts getting back to his feet, and Edge delivers a chair shot to the skull.
- Afterwards, in Vickie’s office, Edge complains that he doesn’t have the title. Vickie tells him that she got him a match at The Great American Bash, but that doesn’t appease him. Vickie tells him that his actions on Monday were kind of stupid, and he didn’t even have her permission to be on RAW. Edge erupts, saying he doesn’t need her permission. She tells him to watch it, since she is still his boss, and tells Edge that he looks like a fool after RAW 06.30.08, causing Edge to storm out of the office.
- Jeff Hardy def. John Morrison
- Backstage, Edge is venting to Hawkins & Ryder when he is told Vickie wants to see him. Edge goes to Vickie’s office, and tells her that she wouldn’t be GM if it wasn’t for him, and in fact, Edge is the “real” GM of SMACKDOWN. Vickie says she’s confined to a wheelchair because of him. She starts talking in Spanish. Edge cuts her off, and tells her to speak to him in Eglish, so she yells “GET OUT!” Edge tries to get back in - and discovers the door is locked. Edge tells her to open the door. When she doesn’t, he kicks at the door before storming off.
- Matt Hardy def. Chavo Guerrero, Shelton Benjamin and Mr. Kennedy in a Fatal 4th of July 4-Way Match to retain his United States Championship after delivering a Twist of Fate to Shelton, who lands on Chavo, which Matt then pins for the win.
- Edge comes to the ring without his entrance music and grabs a mic. He says this is his first and last public statement about what happened to him on RAW 06.30.08. Edge says he was the victim of 2 cowardly attacks: the first by Batista; the second by CM Punk, which cost him his championship.
- He says from the moment he walked in tonight, he’s gotten nothing but disrepect. The fans have disrespected him. Hawkins & Ryder, who Edge says he brought up from nothing, have done nothing. He says he stands out there alone, but that’s fine.
- He says he hasn’t even received the support of “the love of his life,” his fiancee, Vickie Guerrero, who did nothing but locked him out of her office. He says he has a few dirty little secrets he could say about Vickie - but is interrupted by Vickie, who WALKS out, with her wheelchair nowhere to be found.
- When Vickie says she “doesn’t understand” and asks him what he’s doing, Edge walks up to her and says he has one last public statement to make to Vickie and to all of the people: “THE WEDDING IS OFF!” Edge walks off and Vickie drops to her knees, screaming hysterically while she throws her engagement ring away.
