SmackDown 02.01.08
- Assistant GM Teddy Long comes out to start the show, and says that per Mr. McMahon he’s in charge tonight. The reason: Vickie Guerrero was re-injured at Royal Rumble. Teddy Long also announces that there will be an Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out to determine who will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania. The participants: Batista, The Great Khali, Finlay, MVP, Big Daddy V and The Undertaker. Plus, Edge will have to defend his title in a rematch at No Way Out against No Way Out.
- Edge comes out and asks why Rey is getting a rematch, after he injured the “love of his life,” Vickie Guerrero, and tells Teddy that he will defend against anyone else, just not Rey. Teddy says what he says goes, and leaves the ring smiling.
- Announcer Justin Long states that the next match is a Career Threatening Match - if Ric Flair loses, he must retire.
- Ric Flair def. MVP by DQ after MVP reverses the Figure 4 Leg Lock and refuses to break the hold when Flair makes it to the ropes.
- After the match, MVP continues to attack Flair, ramming Flair’s legs into the ringpost. Shrugging off officials’ efforts to pull him away, MVP runs the steel steps into Flair’s leg.
- Palumbo comes to the ring, and says he and Michelle were doing just fine before Noble “stuck his nose where it didn’t belong.” Beating up on Jamie Noble felt really good last week on SmackDown 01.25.08. He says all the stuff that’s happened is all Jamie Noble - and WWE even fined him, Chuck Palumbo, $10,000 for hitting the ref. Palumbo said that it was worth every nickel to watch Noble “quake and quiver.” Palumbo says he wants to publicly apologize to Michelle McCool, and calls her to the ring.
- Michelle comes out and listens to Palumbo say “I’m sorry”…and tells him she doesn’t believe he means a word of it. She slaps him, and he rushes her - but stops himself, and starts blaming her for his losing streak and everything else that’s happened. Palumbo tells Michelle he’s going to take out that slap on Jamie Noble - and he’s going to make her watch.
- The Legacy of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
is coming February 12th.
- CM Punk & Rey Mysterio def. Chavo Guerrero & Edge in a Tag Team Match
- Backstage, Mr. McMahon tells Finlay he’s disappointing Vince almost as much as Vince’s own son, Hornswoggle. Finlay had an opportunity in the Royal Rumble Match and he threw it away. When Vince asks why he did it, Finlay said “loyalty” and “friendship.” Vince scoffs, and said what he did was stupid.
- Hornswoggle & Finlay def. Deuce N’ Domino in a Tag Team Match
- For her first night on SmackDown, Eve Torres introduces Batista.
- Batista comes to the ring and says on SmackDown 01.25.08 he pretty much guaranteed a win at the Royal Rumble 01.27.08. While things didn’t turn out exactly as planned, he was in there the logest of any competitor. Now, he’s going to compete in an Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out. He says in that match 5 men will leave on their backs - but he won’t be one of them. He’s going to walk out of that match and straight into Wrestlemania, where he’s going to get his World Heavyweight Championship back.
- Jesse shows up on the trinitron and says that last week he mentioned his partner was seeing a doctor for his “problems.” Jesse is happy to announce the doctors have cured Festus, and Jesse and the new improved Festus will be back in action next week on SmackDown.
- Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder def. Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang in a Tag Team Match
- The Undertaker & Kane def. Mark Henry & Big Daddy V by submission after The Undertaker puts Mark Henry into his new submission hold, causing blood to drip from Henry’s mouth
