SmackDown 01.04.08

  • Vickie Guerrero, still in a wheelchair, is wheeled out to the top of the ramp by Teddy Long. Vickie says that if The Undertaker or Batista so much as touches Edge, their championship dreams will “go up in smoke”. She goes on to say that she, after consulting “the love of her life,” has decided to start a Beat The Clock Challenge, with the winner going on to face Edge at the Royal Rumble. She then introduces SmackDown’s new color commentator, Jonathan Coachman.
  • Finlay def. MVP in 9:46 in the first Beat The Clock Match. During the match, Hornswoggle tosses a shillelagh into the ring. MVP grabs the shillelagh, but is stopped by the ref. The ref turns his back to deposit the shillelagh out of the ring…and Finlay hits MVP another shillelagh.
  • Mr. McMahon comes to the ring and hugs Hornswoggle.
  • Victoria & Kenny Dykstra def. Michelle McCool & Chuck Palumbo in a Mixed Tag Team Match after a distraction from Kenny allows Victoria to pick up the win.
  • After the match, a frustrated Palumbo tells Michelle McCool he’s “sick of her” not being able to “do anything right,” then leaves without her.
  • Backstage, Vickie Guerrero berates Teddy Long for not getting her coffee right, making him send it back. An angry Chavo Guerrero comes to the ring, asking Vickie if she understands what she’s doing to the Guerrero family by her relationship. When Vickie asks him what he wants, Chavo says he wants to roll back the hands of time…and get something he just can’t have.
  • Chavo Guerrero def. Funaki in 6:02 in a Beat The Clock Match, beating Finlay’s time by 3:44
  • Vickie Guerrero appears on the screen, and says Teddy Long has an important announcement concerning Batista’s Beat The Clock Match. Teddy says that by order of GM Vickie Guerrero, Batista will face both Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder in a Handicap Match.
  • Batista fails to beat Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder in 6:02 in a Handicap Beat The Clock Match, so loses his chance to face Edge at Royal Rumble
  • Backstage, MVP is on the phone. He says he’s going to “shatter the glass ceiling” in the WWE, and do what Triple H couldn’t do last Monday on RAW 12.31.07 - defeat Ric Flair.
  • Backstage, Rey Mysterio says he has worn the World Heavweight Championship once, and he’ll do anything in his power to wear it again.
  • Shannon Moore & Jimmy Wang Yang def. Deuce N’ Domino in a Tag Team Match
  • Matt Striker comes out to say that he is not The Undertaker’s opponent in his Beat The Clock Match. Instead, Vickie Guerrero has named him the Special Guest Referee for the match, and the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry, is The Undertaker’s opponent.
  • The Undertaker fails to beat Mark Henry in 6:02 in a Beat The Clock Match after Special Guest Referee Matt Striker stops counting the pin with 5 seconds to go before fleeing the ring.
  • After the match, an angry Undertaker takes out his frustration by chokeslamming Mark Henry.
  • Matt Striker says that The Undertaker dared to put his hands on him. If The Undertaker ever tries that again, he will single-handedly beat The Undertaker…and so will Big Daddy V.
  • Rey Mysterio comes to the ring for his Beat The Clock Match…and discovers his opponent is the World Heavyweight Champion himself, Edge, who makes his way to the ring accompanied by Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder
  • Rey Mysterio def. Edge in 4:29 to win the Beat The Clock Challenge. During the match, Batista comes out and takes out Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. Just a minute or two later, The Undertaker comes out and the lights go down. When the lights come back up, The Undertaker is gone, and a dazed Edge is lying in perfect position for the 619!
