Sex And The City (2008)
Synopsis:
The continuing adventures of Carrie (Parker), Samantha (Cattrall), Charlotte (Davis) and Miranda (Nixon) as they live their lives in Manhattan four years after the series ended.
Our Thoughts:
Never having been a fan of the show, a movie continuation doesn’t have me really excited. However, I know that this was the must-see show for a lot of my female friends back when it was on the air (and especially when it started re-broadcasting on channels other than HBO), so I know they are just as excited for this movie continuation as I am for the upcoming The X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008).
So, guys out there may be saying “why is this a summer release?” After thinking about it a bit, I came up with a couple reasons. First off, the show was a huge hit among women, so the studio is hoping those women will mob the theaters in packs to see the film. Of course, that also leads into the second reason - summer films aren’t exactly aimed at women.
While guys are already salivating at the chance to see films like Iron Man (2008) and Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008), the women in their lives are already sighing at the amount of time they’ll have to spend at the movie theaters watching superheroes of every shape and size. True, they might enjoy themselves, but those films aren’t their first choices.
Now, with Sex And The City also in the theaters, they’ll have options. Guys, can’t wait to see the latest superhero flick, but it’s not exactly lighting a fire under your gal? Agree to go to Sex And The City with her after she sees your flick. Chances are she’ll go for it.
Or, even better, suggest to her she go see Sex And The City with her gal pals while you and your buddies hit your film? That way, you both come out happy.
Counter-programming during the summer season at it’s finest, Sex And The City is bound to be a huge hit - but it’s a sure bet that the testerone levels in the theater are going to be mighty low. It’s just too bad a guy flick like the Star Trek (2009) or Quantum of Solace (the next James Bond flick) aren’t playing at the same time.
Of course, there is Midnight Meat Train (2008)…
