Synopsis:

It’s 1976, and one-hit wonder Jackie Moon (Ferrell) has used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song “Love Me Sexy” to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon’s franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible - win.

Our Thoughts:

Oh boy, another craptastical Will Ferrell movie is making it’s way to the big screen this February. Since Well Ferrell’s movies tend to be sub-par at best (aside from the quirky - and surprisingly good - Stranger Than Fiction (2006)), chances are Semi-Pro will be right along those same veins.

I can’t figure out for the life of me why Will Ferrell is still acting. With bad movie after bad movie, Will Ferrell keeps coming back with dumber and dumber comedies. We now know he is actually able to act (the above-mentioned Stranger Than Fiction (2006)), so why doesn’t he get away from these ridiculous scripts and do something worth watching? He must have a huge fanbase with young teens, as no one over the age of, say, 16, actually enjoys the garbage he keeps spewing out, do they? Despite Will’s idiocy shown on screen time and time again, his movies keep doing good box office. Go figure.

Co-star Woody Harrelson doesn’t help, either, as dumb comedies like this one are about as far removed from his only decent acting role (Natural Born Killers) as he can possibly be.

Andre Benjamin seems to be the shining light in all of this muck…but he’s still too new to the acting game for us to rely on him bringing the movie up all by himself.

As with last year’s Blades Of Glory (2007) (our nominee for Worst Movie We Didn’t See In 2007), we’re going to pass on this one…and hopefully spend 2008 completely Ferrell-free.
