Now Running WordPress 2.05 (Ronan)

Less than 3 weeks after beginning to convert PezXPress.com TheMindsChewToy.com to WordPress, I get a notice in my Dashboard about a WordPress upgrade: WordPress 2.0.5 - Ronan. Since this was my first time installing an upgrade (since I started with version 2.0.4), I backed up anything and everything in the site before downloading the file from wordpress.org: the database, all of the folders in my wordpress directory. Every Single Little Thing.

The Upgrade

Per the instructions provided with Ronan, I de-activated all my plugins (of which I have way too many), and uploaded the new wp-admin folder, wp-includes folder, new default theme and the rest of the files the instructions specified (Before you ask, No, I am not using the default theme, I’m using the Anaconda theme from anaconda.targana.net, but I wasn’t going to stray one iota from the install instructions).

Then, I re-uploaded my config file, went to the install page…and, brief moments later, ta-da - upgrade! After re-activating my plugins, I was good to go…or so I thought.

One week later…

So here it is, a week later, and I’m still feeling pretty good about the ease of upgrading (another plus in my book for WordPress), and I go to add a new sidebar widget (Latest Reviews, on the left of the home page).

Lo and behold, I can’t do anything on the widgets page! I try dragging…my cursor highlights. I try clicking on a widget already place in the sidebar…nothing. Turns out, the install directions don’t mention what to do if you are using widgets (since sidebar widgets is apparently an entirely separate program).

Thankfully, it’s an easy fix though. I just had to upload the scriptaculous folder back into wp-includes/js/ and I was good to go.

Phew!
