- A promo for Randy Orton airs, calling him “the greatest RAW superstar of 2007.” Randy Orton is in the ring, and says that he is going to enter 2008 as WWE Champion - and he will exit 2008 still WWE Champion.
- Jeff Hardy comes to the ring, and says he has something Randy Orton doesn’t have - momentum. Jeff then shows video from RAW 12.17.07 when Hardy pinned Orton. Saying momentum doesn’t mean anything - just ask John Cena, Shawn Michaels or the rest - Orton drops the mic and goes for the RKO, but Jeff blocks a delivers a Twist Of Fate to Orton.
- A recap of Vince McMahon’s ultimatum to Ric Flair is shown, with Vince saying if Ric Flair loses, his career will be finished.
- Backstage, Jeff runs into his brother Matt and asks him how he’s healing after his emergency appendectomy. Matt says he’s doing better, and should be back by the Royal Rumble - then asks Jeff that if Jeff wins the title at Royal Rumble if he’d give his brother Matt the first title shot. Jeff says he’d be honored to.

- Backstage, Todd Grisham asks Triple H how he feels about facing his friend Ric Flair tonight. Triple H says he doesn’t go into matches to lose, and, like Ric Flair said, if Ric’s going to lose, at least he’ll lose to the best. Vince interrupts, and has GM William Regal tell Triple H that if Triple H loses his match against Ric Flair in any way, Triple H will not be able to compete in the Royal Rumble Match.
- Dick Johnson dances while Jillian sings ‘Auld Lang Syne’ until Ron Simmons puts his 2 cents in.
- Backstage, Vince McMahon tells GM William Regal to “prove himself” in a match against Hornswoggle. Regal hesitates and asks where Finlay is. Vince assures Regal that Finlay is in Northern Ireland tonight.

- Highlights are shown of “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan winning the first ever Royal Rumble Match on January 24, 1988.

- Backstage, Vince McMahon interrupts Ric Flair’s conversation with Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes and asks Ric “are you ready?” Vince asks Ric if he’s ready for his career to be over, the repeats “it’s over” over and over again.
- After a long intro that includes large amounts of pyrotechnics and his old horned limo, JBL says this day will be remembered for one thing, and one thing only - JBL’s return to RAW. Saying if he can’t buy something, he just takes it, he’s interrupted by Chris Jericho. The two immediately attack each other until officials forcibly pull them apart.
- Backstage, JBL yells at the officials who restrained him, telling them he can “buy and sell” them.
- Beth Phoenix def. Melina and Mickie James in a Triple Threat Match to retain her Womens Championship
- Before the Regal vs. Hornswoggle match starts, Vince McMahon gives his son Hornswoggle a hug.
- During the match, Regal is unable to hit Hornswoggle after seeing the pleading look in his eyes. Mr. McMahon grabs a mic and tosses brass knuckles to Regal, telling Regal to use them. Regal can’t, and lets Hornswoggle escape from the ring. Mr. McMahon gets in the ring and tells Regal it was test - and Regal failed.
- Jeff Hardy vs. Santino Marella is under way when Randy Orton appears on the trinitron and gets Jeff’s attention. Orton tells Jeff that his “momentum” is worth nothing, and it’s a shame he’s going to have to ring in the new year bringing his brother Matt to the emergency room again, since Orton just kicked him where his appendix used to be. As Jeff watches, Orton then delivers a running knee to Matt’s temple. By the time Jeff gets to Matt backstage, Orton has left.
- Backstage, Triple H talks to Ric Flair and says that he hopes they can still be friends after he ends Flair’s career. Flair says they will always be friends…but Triple H winning isn’t a foregone conclusion. Triple H tells Flair “be the man” and Triple H will “beat the man”.
- Ric Flair def. Triple H by DQ after Regal comes out and attacks Ric Flair with the brass knuckles right in front of the ref.
