RAW 06.30.08
- Shane McMahon appears on the screen. He says that while Mr. McMahon is a larger-than-life on-screen persona, he is very tight-lipped about his private life, so there will be no updates tonight on his condition. Shane asks that everyone involved in tonight’s RAW pull together “in this time of uncertainty.”
- Jim “JR” Ross comes to the ring. He says it is a magnificent honor to be standing in the ring on this night to say “it’s good to be home.” He says he’s very excited about his new journey on SMACKDOWN - and he hopes the fans will join him on this journey. He says he’s excited about the opportunity to work with Mick Foley. He thanks Jerry “The King” Lawler for over a decade of “wonderful years.” JR says he knows Michael Cole will do a great job on RAW, as the crowd boos.
- As he thanks the fans in his hometown, Edge, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder interrupt and make their way to the ring. They get in the ring, and Edge says that when he heard JR had a farewell address on RAW, he had to make an appearance. Edge disses JR, saying nobody cares about him at all - and they never did. Edge says JR now can truly start his “Hall Of Fame” career by going to “his” show, SMACKDOWN, where JR will have to start chanting “Edge Wins!” Edge tells JR to say it, and JR tosses his mic. Edge then tells Hawkins & Ryder to escort JR from the building.
- After JR is “escorted” out, Edge says he wanted to point out that the “flagship show” is missing a few things - like a general manager. His show, SMACKDOWN, of course, has the “greatest manager” in history, Vickie Guerrero. RAW is also missing The Undertaker - along with the rest of the WWE - thanks to Edge. Edge says the show is also missing a World Champion, and he wanted to come here and tell the RAW superstars that they will never have a shot at his Championship. They can challenge Triple H for his title, but unless it’s a Draft show, Edge will never be on RAW again.
- As Edge makes his way out of the ring, Batista comes out. Batista attacks Edge, slamming him around the outside of the ring. Edge tries to escape through the crowd, but Batista grabs him and tosses him back towards the ring. Batista keeps up the attack, slamming Edge repeatedly into the announcer’s table and the steel steps before delivering a Batista Bomb in the middle of the ring.
- CM Punk rushes out with a referee and cashes in his “Money In The Bank”
- CM Punk def. Edge to become the new World Heavyweight Champion!
- Mickie James def. Jillian Hall - despite a hurt shoulder
- Rey Mysterio comes to the ring, and congratulates CM Punk on defeating Edge and bringing the World Heavyweight Championship to RAW. Rey says up until last week his entire WWE career has been on SMACKDOWN, but now that he’s on RAW, he likes it.
- Santino Marella comes out and says anyone who hides behind a “mahsk” is either incredibly ugly, incredibly stupid, or is The Batman - and Santino says Rey is no Batman. He then shows the latest issue of WWE magazine with Rey Mysterio on the cover, saying he can’t understand Rey’s popularity. Santino says he has a problem with the cover because he submitted a photo of himself, and they used Rey’s picture instead. Santino shows his ugly picture, which the crowd laughs at. Santino tells Rey there is a reason he has never been on RAW - because that’s where real superstars like Santino “rise and shine.” So, Santino says, Rey should mind his manners or it will be very bad for him.
- Santino says Rey can now speak - admonishing Rey to speak in a language everyone can understand - and Rey attacks him, delivering the 619.
- WWE: Nature Boy Ric Flair - The Definitive Collection
coming to DVD next week.
- WWE Fact: WWE videogames have sold more than 39 million copies this decade.
- Backstage, CM Punk is being interviewed about winning the World Heavyweight Champion when JBL interrupts. JBL tells Punk he has 2 options: go down as an asterisk in WWE history, or put his title on the line tonight against JBL. CM Punk says if JBL wants to be the first, that’s ok with him.
- John Cena says he did not beat Triple H for the WWE Championship last night on Night of Champions, but he is proud of the loss, because they created a moment. Cena says tonight everyone here was witness to another moment, when CM Punk became the new World Heavyweight Champion.
- Cena doesn’t like JBL trying to bully his way into the title shot. Cena doesn’t know much about CM Punk, but he likes the kid. He knows that CM Punk would have accepted a challenge from anyone - including John Cena himself. Since there isn’t a GM here tonight, it’s up to CM Punk, so Cena is going to let the crowd decide.
- After the crowd cheers loudly to watch a CM Punk vs. John Cena match, JBL comes out and says that Cena will not be wrestling CM Punk tonight, because that match is mine. As a matter of fact, JBL is declaring “martial law” on RAW, since JBL can not have Cena in the building when he wins the World Heavyweight Championship. JBL brings out security he paid for, and says that crowd response doesn’t rule, the people with the most money do - and with Mr. McMahon not here, that means JBL is running things.
- JBL’s 6-man security force gets in the ring and overwhelms Cena and drag him into the back while JBL tosses in an occassional punch. Cena almost escapes a couple of times, but the security force finally manages to drag him out of the building.
- Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase Jr. def. Darren Wade & Steve Anthony in a Tag Team Match
- After the match, Cody grabs a mic and says everyone wants to know why he did what he did to Hardcore Holly. He says growing up with Dusty Rhodes, he’s been told over and over to “pay his dues” and “do the right thing” - and that got him “carrying” Hardcore Holly. So he sought out Ted DiBiase Jr. - and, Cody says, with his talent he doesn’t need to pay dues. Ted DiBiase grabs the mic and says their generation “a bunch of obedient sheep”.
- Paul Burchill says he’s going to “take care of things” and tells Katie Lea to stay put and not get into trouble. After Paul leaves, Jamie introduces himself to Katie, and tells her he’s going to go up to the biggest, baddest guy in the locker room and “draw a line in the sand.” Katie tells him now’s his chance, and has Jamie turn around to see Kane. Jamie starts trying to be all big and tough to Kane, who grabs him by the neck. Jamie kicks him and runs away - and Kane stalks him to the ring.
- Noble attacks first, but Kane knocks him away, and ends up chokeslamming Jamie Noble him onto the announce table. Noble collapses in a heap as Kane stands over him.
- Chris Jericho comes out and says he was swindled at Night of Champions 06.29.08 by Shawn Michaels and Kofi Kingston. He says he’s been told Shawn Michaels isn’t in the building tonight - but he was told that twice before and Shawn Michaels still came out. He says Shawn Michael’s eye injury is worse than he’s letting on, so he’s risking a lot every time he comes out. Since Jericho is reasonable, he’s challenging Michaels to a 1-on-1 match at The Great American Bash…and he says that the worst is yet to come for both Kofi and Michaels.
- Kofi Kingston def. Chris Jericho by DQ, so remains the Intercontinental Champion after Jericho grabs the tights right in front of the ref.
- Enraged, Jericho gouges at Kofi’s eyes before he is pulled away by the ref.
- Footage is shown of Edge taking out his frustration earlier on Hawkins & Ryder before leaving the arena.
- As the CM Punk vs. JBL match is about to begin, JBL’s security force comes out to surround the ring.
- CM Punk def. JBL to remain World Heavyweight Champion after John Cena and Cryme Tyme come out and attack the security force.
