• GM William Regal is in the ring, and says that the next WWE Championship Match will take place at Backlash against the two men he’s about to introduce: Randy Orton and JBL.
  • Triple H comes to the ring, and says he knows he was busy last week with Flair’s retirement, but he must have missed something. After all, Randy Orton didn’t actually beat anyone to retain his WWE Championship - he merely got in a cheap shot and got lucky enough to fall on someone. As for JBL, he’s been retired for 2 years, and his biggest match since coming back has been against a midget.
  • Regal tells Triple H if he wants to be in the match, he’s got to earn his way in, so tonight, Triple H will be in a Handicap Match against Randy Orton and JBL. If Triple H wins, it’ll be a Triple Threat Match at Backlash.

  • Backstage, JBL comes up to Orton. Orton stops him before he says anything and says he knows what JBL is going to say, and he can save it. Orton says he has beaten Triple H before, and he’ll do it again tonight - and all JBL needs to do is stay out of the way.
  • Triple H def. Randy Orton & JBL in a 2-on-1 Tag Team Match
  • After the match, Regal announces that there will be a Triple Threat Match at Backlash for the WWE Championship.
  • John Cena comes out and congratulates Triple H. He says that he beat Triple H last time they fought at Wrestlemania and he actually made JBL quit. As far as Backlash, he actually beat Randy Orton last year at that event.
  • He says he’s got a proposition for Regal - a Fatal 4-Way for the WWE Championship at Backlash!
  • Regal says it’s his duty as GM to have the WWE Championship be the biggest match it could be. So, he’s going to offer the same deal to Cena he offered to Triple H. Tonight, Cena will be in a 2-on-1 Match against JBL…and Triple H!
  • Santino Marella & Carlito def. Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly in a Tag Team Match
  • Backstage, Cryme Tyme is holding a “Wrestlemania Sale,” including a “Shaker of Soul” from Rocky Johnson, Maria’s autographed Playboy®, and a pair of Kim Kardashian’s underwear from the Hall Of Fame. Shaq corrects him, saying it’s not Kim Kardashian’s, it’s Mae Young’s.

  • Chris Jericho comes to the ring to host the “Highlight Reel.” He says his two guests set off some sparks on SmackDown 04.04.08, and that may ignite again tonight. First up: Batista - followed by Shawn Michaels.
  • Jericho says that 65% of the fans who voted on wwe.com think Shawn Michaels did the right thing. Michaels says it was Ric Flair who challenged him. Jericho shows a clip of Michaels beating Flair. Michaels says he was sorry to end Flair’s career.
  • Batista says that’s crap. He says Michael’s ego wouldn’t let him lose, and he wanted to just add another notch to his belt.
  • Michaels asks Batista where his friendship was when he could have talked Flair out of getting in the ring with him. Michaels says that Flair didn’t ask Batista to be his opponent at Wrestlemania - because he didn’t think Batista had the guts. He says there was only one man who could bear that with Flair - and that was Shawn Michaels.
  • Batista says he trusted Michaels - and he’s never going to make that mistake again. Michaels says if he wants a piece of Michaels, than Batista should do something about it. Batista says he already has, then smiles and walks out of the ring.
  • GM Regal is in the office, and says he just got off the phone with SMACKDOWN GM Vickie, and says it’s official: Batista will face Shawn Michaels at Backlash. Randy Orton comes in and says that his match at Backlash started off as 1-On-1 - and now if Cena wins tonight, it’s going to be 4-On-1. Orton tells Regal he should be treated with more respect. Regal says Orton should take on all comers, so next week, he’s going to be in a match - live from England - against William Regal.
  • John Cena def. JBL & Triple H in a 2-On-1 Handicap Match after Triple H & JBL start attacking each other. Orton gets hit accidentally by JBL, knocking him down. Triple H and JBL get back in the ring. Triple H goes back to the corner, Orton comes in and delivers an RKO to JBL. Cena knocks Orton out of the ring and pins JBL for the win!
