Rambo (2008)
Synopsis:
Rambo (Stallone) is recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.
Our Thoughts:
The Rambo series is all about over-the-top action set to a vendetta tune…and this 4th installment looks to be no different. Rambo has always been for action-violence junkies, with very little else going for it.
But, how old will we let our main character get in this type of film? In Rocky Balboa (2006), Stallone didn’t look as old as he is - until he got in the ring.
Now he’s going for a 4th Rambo, which has quite a few more action sequences than all the Rocky movies put together - so how is he going to make that work? From the preview, it looks like he’s not going to be doing a lot of running, instead mostly posing and shooting from a standstill.
I’m interested in seeing this film, but not really to see the continuation of the Rambo series…instead, I want to see if Stallone will manage to keep up with the younger soldiers in the film. It looks like the filmmakers aren’t betting on it - with a January release date, they don’t seem to be looking for this film to make large amounts of cash.
Hopefully, it’ll turn out to be a worthy continuation of the series…but I’ll wait for the DVD to find out.
