Synopsis:

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond (Craig) discovers that Dominic Greene (Amalric) is forging a deal with General Medrano (Cosio) to take control of one of the world’s most important natural resources. Now, he has to stop Greene - and find out who the man is responsible for the death of Vesper, the love of his life.

Our Thoughts:

After seeing Daniel Craig as everybody’s favorite super spy James Bond in Casino Royale, I have to say Quantum Of Solace is the first James Bond film I can remember not looking forward to seeing in theaters.

I mean, when a guy who seems to have escaped from a Reebok® commercial is more memorable than the current Bond, well, that’s not saying much about the guy playing Bond, is it? With his pock-marked face and rough edges, Craig looks more like he should be doing some sort of sewer cleaning work than trying to play the suave and sophisticated Bond - especially so soon after ultra-suave Pierce Brosnan has vacated the role.

Of course, the filmmakers of Casino Royale realized this, so went “back to the beginning” and showed a pre-suave Bond who did the unthinkable - he fell in actual love. Of course, she was offed in Casino Royale, and now Bond is back for a sequel with Quantum Of Solace.

Maybe it’s a good thing these films are seperating themselves by carrying the storyline over into the next film. That way, anyone who doesn’t like Daniel Craig as Bond can just skip the whole set, and those who have no taste whatsover (ie, like Craig as Bond) can collect just this Craig-induced set of Bond films.

Since I haven’t gotten around to reviewing Casino Royale yet, I’ll probably force myself to go for the two-fer rental once Quantum of Solace hits DVD.

Yes, I said DVD, because unless the preview really WOWs me, I’m staying away from this one while it’s in theaters. After all, why would I go see a straight-on sequel to a film I didn’t like in the first place? Just because it has “James Bond 007″ in the title? Not bloody likely.
