Our Thoughts:
With P2, newly formed Summit Entertainment looks to follow in Lionsgate wake by coming out with some darn good horror films. With producers Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur backing them up, Summit Entertainment hopes P2 will follow in the path of previous Aja and Levasseur-backed films like The Hills Have Eyes (2006) and High Tension (2005).
While P2 probably won’t achieve the commercial success of The Hills Have Eyes (2006), it does look like it could have some good scares in store for it’s viewers, thanks in part to it’s setting.
While lots of films have dealt with brief glimpses of horror in dimly lit parking garages, they usually only deliver the parking garage in small doses - a scene here or there. With P2, they look to keep the whole film in the parking garage - and this seems like a perfect setting for a horror flick. With it’s wide open spaces, it allows for a lot of running and hiding, yet at the same time a feeling of claustrophobia can settle in on the viewers, as the ceiling is close enough to feel confining. Add in a couple of flickering flourescents, and you’ve got a setting practically calling out for some creepy events.
Still, this may be just another failed attempt at a decent horror flick. But, with Aja and Levasseur backing it up, and a setting that seems destined for horror, we’ll definitely be checking it out once it hits DVD.
