One Missed Call (2008)
Synopsis:
When two of her friends receive mysterious phone calls predicting their manner of death days before they die, Beth Raymond (Sossamon) goes to the police. The police think Beth is delusional–except for Detective Jack Andrews (Burns), whose own sister was killed in a freak accident that bears a strange similarity to the deaths of Beth’s friends. Together, Jack and Beth work feverishly to unravel the mystery behind the ominous calls.
Our Thoughts:
With cell phones all the rage these days, it’s not surprising a film takes the idea of cell phones and runs with it, using the cell phones to produce another twist to the idea of death travelling through electronics, as highlighted in The Ring.
In The Ring it was a deadly videotape; in One Missed Call, it’s a cell phone message. Sounds interesting, but wait, didn’t I just read something about deadly cell phones? Oh yeah, it was a recent Stephen King novel, titled Cell appropriately enough, about a virus that turns humans into the undead through a cell phone signal.
While that sounds much better, I guess I have to wait for 2009 for the movie adaptation Cell (TBA) to hit theaters.
Before that, I’ll probably check out One Missed Call…but I probably won’t spend the extra cash to see what will probably be just another horror flick in theaters. Instead, I’ll wait for the DVD to find out if this is one Call I should have never taken.
