Synopsis:

When Europol agent Mika (Harris) disobeys orders and digs into top secret files about the Ozunu Clan, she becomes a target of an assassination team headed by Takeshi (Yune). She is rescued by Raizo (Rain), an ex-member of the Clan. Now the two of them must learn to trust each other if they are going to bring down the Clan.

Our Thoughts:

Speed Racer (2008)’s singer-turned-actor Rain teams up with Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) Tia Dalma to take on Die Another Day (2002) baddie Rick Yun in a film titled Ninja Assassin, coming to theaters this January.

This one seems iffy.

Can audiences forgive new actor Rain for his role in Speed Racer (2008) enough to go see him in his own starring role? Will the witchy remnants of Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) be too much to overcome for actress Naomie Harris? Can Rick Yune outdo his James Bond baddie?

While the most likely answer to all of those is no, the fact the film is called Ninja Assassin is bound to attract some martial arts fans who are missing the likes of American Ninja and it’s ilk.

Toss in director James McTeigue, who was able to take fighting to a whole new artistic level with his V For Vendetta (2006), and Ninja Assassin may just be worth seeing.

Let’s hope so - otherwise, it seems like Rain’s acting career will be over before it even begins.
