XBox 360 - The First In The Next-Gen Video Game Systems
The XBox 360 hit shelves Tuesday, November 22, 2005, officially kicking off the next generation of Video Game Systems (getting a full year start on it’s competitors - Sony’s Playstation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii).
The system is now available for $299 for the “Core System” or $399 for the “XBox 360″ System.
- 3 CPU Processors running at 3.2 GHz
- 512 MB RAM
- 500 MHz ATI graphics processor
- 20 GB Hard Drive (sold separately for the “Core System”; included with the “XBox 360″ system)
- Ability to link up with Windows XP Media Center Edition PC
- Ability to connect to XBox Live
- 3 USB Ports
- Wireless Controller (connections for up to 4 wireless controllers)
- DVD/CD-ROM Drive
- Plays original XBox games (hard drive required)
This one looks to be very impressive right out of the box! Still, anything with Microsoft’s name on it gives me a bit of pause (I’ve had too much experience with Microsoft’s famous “Blue Screen Of Death”), but the easy connection to a computer does give it a definite edge. Having the backward-compatibility with original XBox games is nice, but requiring the hard drive for that is a bit of a downfall, since previous owners need to shell out an extra $100 for the system that includes the hard drive.
Still, a pretty impressive machine from Microsoft - but not impressive enough to dissuade me from picking up a Playstation 3.
