Synopsis:

Trying to save their planet from destruction, a team of tiny aliens come to Earth in a spaceship that looks like a human (Murphy). But, they’re in for trouble when their captain falls for a human woman (Union).

Our Thoughts:

While we’re still a little wary of Eddie Murphy post-Beverly Hills Cop III, he’s done pretty a good job of rebuilding our trust in recent years - especially when he goes for off-the-wall comedies. With a story that includes him being just a spaceship for aliens, Meet Dave is about as off-the-wall as you can get.

Gabrielle Union, on the other hand, has done a good job of staying on our good side. From the super-cheesy Bring It On (2000) to Bad Boys II (2003) to Breakin’ All The Rules, she’s been fun to watch in whatever we’ve seen her in. True, we’ve skipped her roles in more pathetic films like The Honeymooners, but from what we’ve seen of her, we’re willing to bet she was probably a bright spot in that fiasco as well.

So with Eddie going off-the-wall in a way that brings back fond memories of The Adventures Of Pluto Nash (2001) and is teaming up with the (so-far) always enjoyable Gabrielle Union, Meet Dave might find it’s way on to our must-see list this summer.

Of course, with no trailer yet released, this is pretty much speculation on our part so far. It’s entirely possible the trailer will alter our views drastically. After all, good casting and funny-sounding premises have bombed before. Let’s just hope Meet Dave will be able to make full use of it’s resources.
