Synopsis:
A science professor (Fraser) has become the laughing stock of the academic community thanks to his untraditional hypotheses. Based on the novel by Jules Verne.
Our Thoughts:
Let me guess. You’ve been sitting around recently going, “when can I next see Brendan Fraser on the big screen?” You feel cheated that Inkheart (2009) - originally scheduled as a Spring 2008 release - has been pushed back to 2009, and you just don’t want to wait all the way until August before you can see Brendan again on the big screen in The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor (2008).
Well, with Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D, you get to see him at least a couple of weeks earlier. But will it be any good?
While Journey To The Center Of The Earth initially sounds like a big ball of fun smack dab in the middle of summer, this film has us a little worried - mainly by tacking on the “3D” at the end of the title. We still remember things like Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare after all - complete with those cheesy plastic 3D glasses. Is that what is going to be the case for this film?
And what about those people - like myself - who don’t see 3D? Are we going to be stuck starring at brightly colored triple versions of the film, thus negating all of our enjoyment? Guess we’ll have to wait for the trailer to find out.
I hope the 3D aspect doesn’t kill the movie. A journey through the Earth, complete with peculiar creatures, sounds like a fun ride to me. Why do they have to tack the 3D stigma to it? Is the whole movie - like previous efforts in 3D - going to be characters reaching towards the screen and looking incredibly stupid while doing it? Let’s hope they go the Beowulf (2007) route and just kick the film’s computer imagery up a notch.
So, for now, we wait for the trailer to Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D - and hope against hope that everyone will be able to enjoy this one - and the film won’t come with it’s own pair of those stupid glasses.
