Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
Synopsis:
Elf Prince Nuada (Goss), wanting to reclaim the Earth for his kind, searches for 3 pieces of a crown that will unleash a goblin made army of robots. The only ones who can stop him? Hellboy (Perlman) and the rest of the team from the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Development, who have recently been thrust into the public spotlight…and are dealing with unwelcome changes within the Bureau itself.
Our Thoughts:
The original Hellboy turned out a lot better than I ever expected, with Ron Perlman really leaping into the title character role, so a sequel sounded like a good idea. But, when I first heard that Hellboy was going to be fighting elves and fairies, I was a bit disappointed. Those over-friendly types vs. the Man-Beast? Not sounding so good…
Apparently, director Guillermo del Toro has a different take on the cute and cuddly, however, as the elves and fairies are meaner and nastier than what most folks are used to from these folk.
Let’s hope so…after all, we want this to be a must-see film, not some pathetic joke that’s been building for 3 years. Here’s hoping the wise-cracking guy in the big red costume can keep the fun going through a second film - and a possible third film.
