- SMACKDOWN’s World Heavyweight Champion Edge makes his way to the ring to host “The Cutting Edge”. Edge says he’s excited to be on ECW tonight, and he’s looking forward to Royal Rumble in 2 weeks when he faces Rey Mysterio…but, he says “if you’re looking for a competitive match, you may want to look elsewhere”, then shows a clip from the end of SmackDown when he attacked Rey Mysterio.
- After gloating a bit about that, Edge introduces his guest for tonight: ECW Champion CM Punk. Edge says he sees a bit of himself in Punk, and congratulates CM Punk for becoming the ECW Champion - but then asks who he’s really faced since becoming champion? Chavo twice - but by count-out and DQ. Punk says that the difference between himself and Edge is that he respects his opponents, even Chavo, who is a Guerrero, which means a lot to him. When Edge says that’s a bold statement, CM Punk says that wasn’t a bold statement, but this is: he can beat Edge. When Edge laughs, CM Punk says “in case you haven’t noticed, this isn’t SmackDown, this is his show.”
- Chavo Guerrero comes out and challenges CM Punk again tonight. CM Punk says that they keep having the same conversation, and they’ll probably have this conversation again next week after Punk beats Chavo again tonight. Chavo shoves Punk into Edge, who hits Punk from behind. Chavo and Edge continue the attack on Punk, tossing CM Punk shoulder-first into the steel ring post twice.
- Afterwards, Edge walks out of the buliding.
- The Miz & John Morrison def. The Highlanders in a Tag Team Match
- Kofi Kingston debuts next week on ECW
- Kelly Kelly comes to the ring and says “if you think the Divas look good now, just wait until next week” when they compete in a Best Body Contest next week in HD.
- Tazz gets in the ring to talk to a taped-up Colin Delaney. Tazz asks how Colin thinks his career is going to turn out. Colin says he doesn’t know, but he’s here to fight another week. Tazz says that tonight Colin has a big opportunity, as he gets to take on a former WWE Champion, Kane.
- Kane def. Colin Delaney easily
- Backstage, CM Punk is icing his shoulder when Estrada comes up to him and asks if he’s going to be able to compete later tonight. CM Punk tells him he’ll be there.
- Joey Styles says that after the 30-foot Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy onto Randy Orton on RAW 01.14.08, Orton spent the night in a Mobile Medical Unit before being released this morning. Hardy, before he could be even checked out, staggered out of that same Medical Unit last night.
- Styles also announces that, as announced on wwe.com, Shelton Benjamin is now part of the Royal Rumble Match.

- Edge comes out to join Tazz and Joey Styles at the announcer’s table for the next match.
- Chavo Guerrero def. CM Punk by count-out to become the new #1 Contender after Edge attacks CM Punk from behind with the World Heavyweight Championship behind the ref’s back.
