Synopsis:

A slacker (LaBeouf) and a single mother (Monaghan) are framed as terrorists and then forced to become members of a cell planning a political assassination.

Our Thoughts:

After appearing in last year’s summer smash Transformers (2007), Shia LaBeouf became the newest Hollywood golden boy - and helped keep that going strong with a role in the long-awaited Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008).

This September, he’s following that up with another action film, Eagle Eye directed by DJ Caruso (known for directing Shia in Disturbia (2007)) - and this one has plenty of star power to go around.

Aside from Shia, we’ve got Mission: Impossible III (2006)’s Michelle Monaghan, the always fun Rosario Dawson, “The Shield”’s Michael Chiklis…and Billy Bob Thornton.

While Billy Bob Thornton isn’t our favorite actor (we still have nightmares about him and Halle Berry from Monster’s Ball - plus the whole freaky-deaky Angelina Jolie thing), from the previews, this may be one role he might be pretty good at it. Our impression: he’s playing a re-vamped Mr. Smith from The Matrix (1999). Sounds like something that he might be good at (hey - at least he’s fully clothed and not trying to make people laugh - or both).

With Rosario Dawson and co-horts, the rest of the cast should make up for any foibles of Billy Bob’s. If the film can come close to what the preview is promising, this one should be worth checking out in theaters.

And what perfect timing too! Just think…it’s the end of September, and viewers are winding down from the summer movie season. They’re on the lookout for a high octane boost to get them revved up again. Then along comes Eagle Eye, and the summer rush keeps going until October.

At least, that’s what we’re hoping.
