Burn After Reading (2008)

Synopsis:

Two dim-witted gym employees stumble across a disc containing the personal memoir of an ousted CIA official (Malkovich), and try to use it to their advantage.

Our Thoughts:

The Coen Brothers are coming out with a new movie and, even though it’s stars Brad Pitt (among others), we still want to see Burn After Reading.

Seeming to combine elements of some of our favorite Brad Pitt performances - the 12 Monkeys fruitcake and the True Romance stoner - the Burn After Reading Pitt looks like fun.

Then there are the impressive list of stars attached to the film. It’s nice to see The Coen Brothers are giving Clooney another try (even though their O Brother, Where Art Thou? was a commercial disappointment), and since he does much better in comedy than anything else (see Ocean’s 11 and it’s sequels) , he’s looking like a plus as well.

Frances McDormand returns to dark comedy - the kind that originally brought her movie fame (Fargo) - and gets away from the ridiculous roles she’s had lately (what exactly was she supposed to be in Aeon Flux (2005) anyway?)

John Malkovich is a bit of a question for a comedic film, but since he looks to be playing the straight guy to everyone else’s attempts at humor, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

And, with Burn After Reading being The Coens follow-up film to their Academy Award® winner No Country For Old Men (2007), chances are a lot of people are going to be tuning in for this one.

However, since the movie is hitting theaters just after the finish of the big Summer Movie season, chances are we won’t have the extra cash to see this one on the big screen - but we will definitely be on the lookout for Burn After Reading once it hits DVD!
