Our Thoughts:
The first thing that caught my attention about the upcoming film Blindness was it’s poster, with a shadowy figure pressed against what looks like a field of glass, with a vision chart (the letters spelling out the name of the film) in front of them.
I was intrigued, so I went over to the official site. The trailer (and the site itself, with a fun whiteout effect) peaked my interest even more.
While Julianne Moore has chosen to spend her recent years making these slightly off-the-beaten-path films (The Forgotten (2004), Children Of Men (2006), Freedomland (2006)), Mark Ruffalo was a nice surprise.
More known for his comedic efforts in things like 13 Going On 30 (2004) and Rumor Has It…, Ruffalo has been quietly infiltrating the more serious films for a while now, and looks to really show what he can do in Blindness.
Danny Glover, who remade himself in the eyes of viewers with his performance in Saw (2004), is also along for the ride.
With Danny and Julianne providing a solid base for the film, and what hopes to be a meatier role for Mark Ruffalo than his comedic turns, Blindness looks to be shaping up to be a solid entry.
Toss in a background of the ever-terrifying plague (this causing permanent blindness), and Blindness seems like it’s going to be a gripping thriller the viewer won’t soon forget.
Let’s hope so.
