Nintendo releases it’s newest Video Game System to compete with Microsoft’s XBox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3 this Sunday: The Nintendo Wii.

The Wii will sell for $250.

The system includes:

  • Unique Wii remotes which will track player’s movement (to swing a bat, for example, you actually pretend to swing a bat while holding the controller)
  • Wii Sports game
  • 4 Controller Ports
  • 2 Memory Card Slots
  • AV Multi-Out Port for connection to external sound system
  • Wireless Internet via a Wii LAN (allowing it to connect with the Nintendo DS as well)
  • Optical Disc Drive that plays new 12cm Discs or 8cm GameCube Discs

While not as powerful as either the XBox 360 or the Playstation 3, the Nintendo Wii may attract people thanks to it’s innovating controller style. Personally, I think this may get a little old (and extremely tiring) after awhile, but we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s also nice to see that Nintendo is finally making one of their systems backwards-compatible, as it gets real annoying to not be able to play any old games whenever you purchase a new Nintendo system.

Heather already wants one. Me, I’m holding out for the PS3 when it gets a bit cheaper - but the Wii should be refreshing in the meantime.
